Bild: Burkhard Lingenberg

Dear readers,

The decisions have been made. Out of 232 submissions in six categories, the jury has commended 53 innovative ideas and solutions, and nominated them for the German Packaging Award. Many thanks to this point to all participants! With their performances, they prove once again the remarkable innovation talent of our very diverse and increasingly important industry. Obviously excellent work is being performed in research and development departments!

We are also happy to observe the growing international importance of our Packaging Award. Twelve countries – from Germany and Switzerland, Russia and the UK right through to Iran – are participating this year.

My hearty congratulations go to all the nominees! With their outstanding designs, they have impressed the jury mightily. All readers, I invite you to take a look at the nominees’ packaging solutions in our online gallery.

Last but not least, I would like to invite you to the award gala, which will be taking place on 23rd September in Nuremberg, Germany. There, the winners of 2013 will be announced and celebrated. Do not miss this special industry event on the eve of the packaging trade fair “FachPack”. We are looking forward to your free registration online.

Yours sincerely,

Burkhard Lingenberg

Wide range of innovations

Nominiert 2013

The nominated innovations cover a wide range and offer new possibilities for the conscious and sustainable use of resources, e.g. improved management of empties and resealing or the saving of raw materials, materials, energy and labour. They enable targeted sales promotion by providing opportunities for individualisation and differentiation, increase convenience and benefits to consumers in terms of usability, handling, multi-functionality, secondary use, safety and emotion or show ingeniously simple ways to overcome current technical limitations and open up new fields of application. New ways to increase efficiency can be found as well as uses for recycled materials, solutions for food safety, closed material loops from cradle-to-cradle or vegetable-based raw materials, which are not in food or in competition to the growing of food crops.

54 nominees in 6 categories

Among the nominees are eight from the category displays and promotional packaging, seven from transportation & logistics packaging, three packaging machines, one submission from the category labels & closures as well as 29 sales packaging (five for drinks, six for cosmetics & hygiene, nine for food & pet food, three for pharmaceuticals & medicine, two for washing, cleaning & detergent and four for the rest). In the area of young talent, the jury awarded six nominations.

Congratulations on your nomination!
