Well done everyone!

Dear readers,

once again the German Packaging Award lives up to its reputation. It is fascinating to see how much creativity, ingenuity and expertise the industry packs into its innovations. Our winners have shown us new technology and smart ideas.

Congratulations to winners and nominees

Our winners have really shown us the way forward: new technology and smart ideas, innovations for greater flexibility and efficiency, good recyclable solutions for transport and eCommerce. More convenience for consumers and users, significant progress in the area of health and safety, and surprising and sophisticated effects for POS. Reduced complexity for more sustainability, new ways to address consumer issues, exemplary materials which do not compete with the food cycle, and sophisticated procedures that open up new markets.

I would like to congratulate all the winners on their success! Enjoy the success and recognition you so richly deserve. I would also like to congratulate all 54 nominees, because of course a nomination for the German Packaging Award is in itself a real award and proof of excellent work and exciting innovative talent.

Special mentions

In 2015, for the first time, we have awarded special mentions with the celebration of two submissions which have broken the mould in the most appreciated way, epitomising how influential the power of packaging really is. On the one hand the Carus LED lamp is a light bulb using packaging combined with electronics expertise for the home, which has been implemented in a unique and very sustainable way. On the other hand, we have the submission of the grandpa and grand-daughter team of music teacher Viktor Moor and Sofie. They have been approaching the subject of packaging with creativity and craftsmanship for years as amateurs in the best sense of the word and modifying every-day, convenient solutions for the packaging and dosage of chocolate balls, metal nuts right up to pharmaceutical tablets.

And on a personal note...

This year's competition is a personal turning point for me. In 2005 Prof. Dieter Berndt asked me to assume overall responsibility for the German Packaging Award as a member of the Board of Directors of the German Packaging Institute. Now, 10 years later, I am ready to pass the baton from 2016 onwards.

I would like to thank all participants, friends, and supporters and of course the many dedicated and expert judges at the German Packaging Award for this exciting decade. The time was not only packed full of fascinating innovations, but also with many valuable encounters and great conversations. It has been my great pleasure to conduct and organize this very special packaging showcase event.

While you all – so I hope – continue to work on creating even better packaging with great vigour and creativity, I will be devoting myself increasingly to the activities of Lions International, the world's largest non-profit organization. I am looking forward to being able to devote more time to this cause than has been possible so far.

My successor taking over as person in charge at the German Packaging Institute will be Dr Bettina Horenburg. Ms Horenburg is Director of Corporate Communications at Siegwerk Druckfarben AG & Co. KgaA in Siegburg and since June this year has been active at the dvi as Board Member for Communications.

And now I invite you to get to know the best innovations in packaging in 2015. In our online gallery there is an overview of each nomination and every winner with an image and jury evaluation.

Yours sincerely
Burkhard Lingenberg
dvi Board Member and
Chairman of the Advisory Board of the German Packaging Award
